So it happened, I accidentally cheated on my diet this weekend and so did James :O Turns out it’s a lot harder to go out to eat and not order something with bread.

My failures
James ordered calamari and cheese curds are BREADED and deep fried and we totally forgot about that but somehow remembered not to get breaded wings. And then skiing on Saturday we got dinner at the ski lounge and I thought I ordered the most simple things, french onion soup. I was wrong. French onion soup has bread underneath the cheese! So I failed this weekend. It happens and we’re still new to this so I know there is room for improvement.
Did I get discouraged? Yeah, a little. It was important to remind myself though, that I did not order any of those dishes purposefully, I haven’t eaten bread at home, and the total amount of bread that I did end up eating probably only amounted to 1 slice of bread. Which I will tell you is a huge improvement compared to the bread loaf that James and I usually go through in a week.
Weighing in
You also may have noticed that I didn’t do a post on Saturday and that’s because after 1 week there wasn’t much of a difference in my weight, which I wasn’t surprised about. In most diets, you don’t see any change until the first month so because of that I may wait to do a weigh in until this challenge is finished. Do I still think there will be weight lost? I do, I’m not sure if it will be a lot though. The point of this challenge though is not to lose weight necessarily but I do feel like this is the beginning of a life change for James and I in terms of maybe limiting the carbs/bread we eat even after the diet is over.
Food
With 21 more days left, I’m excited to continue to try more recipes, snacks, and foods that are keto friendly/bread free. A few that we have already tried and are:
Snapea Crisps – These are green beans that are baked, lightly flavored (they have a flavor out there for everyone!) and are kind of addicting. They can be found at Target or most grocery store chains, have a serving size of 22 crisps at 130 calories, and are pretty affordably priced for $1.99 a bag.
Good & Gather Unsweetened Dried Tropical Blend Fruit – This was a crowd favorite! Packed with bananas, mangoes, and pineapple with no extra sugars or ingredients. I found these at Target and although they were $3.99, it still lasted from Saturday until today with 5 people snacking on it.
Simply Nature Popcorn – This sea salt popcorn is organic, gluten free and GMO free with only 35 calories per cup and can be found at Aldi for $2.19. A steal in my opinion as the bag usually lasts for a week between James and I.
Hippeas – I saw these in Target for $3.49 a bag and wanted to give them a try. For reference, imagine Cheeto puffs but instead it’s 130 calories per serving and and made of chickpeas with an interesting but good flavor. James did not like these and I didn’t really at first because they taste a little sweeter when you first taste them. After 4 puffs or so though, they satisfied my desire for normal cheetos.
I went shopping yesterday and bought a few more vegan/keto/healthy snacks for James and I to try so I am looking forward to that. Let me know in the comments if you want a post reviewing these because some of the ones I got are a little unique!
So that’s all for now as we go into Week 2 and thanks for checking in!
